Below is a letter that I was asked to write to KIT. It was given to him when he
received the money from the raffle. We wanted him to know how all of this got
started. I am not in anyway posting this to receive praise for anything. I just
wanted everyone to be able to read it since it was given to KIT with the checks.
KIT said they he would like for everyone to be able to read it, that he didn't
mind me posting it. The letter that I sent to KIT had over a hundred posts
wishing him well. I copied all of those and sent them to him in the letter. For
this post I took them out to keep this post as short as possible but if you
would like to see them they are at this link. http://forums.delphiforums.com/1602/messages/?msg=57001.1
Below this letter is also the original letter that I sent out asking people to donate
money to help KIT out during his treatment. Just in case you some how missed
getting a copy of it when it was going around the net. Enjoy and let me say
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT GAVE AND DONATED PRIZES TO THE RAFFLE. YOU GUYS/GALS
ARE AWESOME. :o)
Blessings, Bro.Greg
KIT (Metricman),
Let me start off by telling a little about how the
Road Star Riders Benefit Raffle all came about. When I told you that I would
pray for you and your wife I was true to my word. I was praying for your healing
and your finances one evening before work and the LORD laid on my heart to start
a benefit for you. I went to work later that evening and contacted Mike Roe
(MR.TIDY). I asked him if it would be ok if I sent out a letter to forum members
asking for donations to help supplement your income while you were off work. His
replied was that he didn't see a problems with it at all and said that he would
help out in anyway he could. He even posted it in the moderator section of the
RSR forum. I know you didn't know there was a moderator section, well me
neither until he told me. See we miss out on all the fun stuff. I sent out
letters to everyone online and everyone else I could think of in the sum of
probably between 2 and 3 hundred. I asked them to send them to everyone they
could think of asking them for help.
I sent the letter out on Thursday 2/20/2003. It
bounced around the net like wild fire. People started asking me why not ask the
dealers to donation items and have a benefit raffle. Well by the time that
Friday night got here Dave (Thor) had talked to Mike Roe (Mr.Tidy) about having
a benefit to help you out. Mr Tidy called me and asked me if I minded changing
the donation a little bit from a straight donation to a benefit raffle. I said
sure just as long as you (KIT) didn't find out that it was for you. :o) Well
dealers started donating things just like Thor had asked them to and the RSR
ROAD STAR RAFFLE was on. You would not believe the way this raffle in your honor
has pulled everyone together. Not everyone knew that the person that the raffle
was for was you. They just knew that there was a brother RSR in need and they
helped out.
I can remember praying that we could raise $1500 - $2000 for you to
help out with the bills while you where off work. I guess I under estimated GOD
and what he can accomplish. He really is THE MAN. I can remember thinking that
we are getting close to the $10k mark. Gram (Steve Graham) said that we could
raise more if we had a pay pal account so he set up one for the raffle and took
care of the business end of things. MR. Tidy and myself collected money in the
mail. Thor took care of all the posts and dealer donations. Pat gathered the
information on all the dealers. There were a lot of people behind the scenes
that helped out with the raffle. It began to be apparent that we where going to
exceed the $10k mark.
I got several letters from people who said they would be
very glad to give a donation to help. Their stories ranged from love one dieing
from cancer in the past to having had cancer their self in the past. Either way
they sure wanted to help in any way they could. It is plum amazing how a group
of people who have nothing else in common other than they like to ride road
stars can pull together and make something like this happen. Man I tell you
these guys are Awesome. And at the close of the auction this is what it read. As
of 11:30 PM CST, 3/14/2003 ($13,073.50) in Donations! Auction for L&S
custom frame work ended- top bid was $1000 (included above) We sure were
thankful and still are that everyone gave like they did to the raffle. We are
excited that we were able to raise over $13k to help you out. We had to pay 3%
of that to pay pal for their services.
Brother you just don't know how many
people you have pulling for you. Prayers are sent up daily. We care a lot about
you and I think the over whelming supports in this raffle proves it. I just ask
one thing brother. Don't worry anymore about the finances, just concentrate on
getting better. I posted a thread telling everyone that if they would like to
say something to you to reply to my message and I would see to it that you got
it. Just take a look below. I copied all of them to this letter. I am also
attaching a copy of the original letter than I sent out. I though you might like
to read it as well. Take care brother and WE ALL LOVE YOU BROTHER :o) and I hope
this money helps you. You will be prayed for my hundreds of people all around
the world.
**********This is the original letter that was sent out.**************
This is Brother Greg White (brogreg1) from Texarkana, AR. One of our fellow
road star riders has cancer. Most of you will recognize that I am talking about
Kit (Metricman). I have been in contact with Kit via e-mail since I found out
that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma cancer. One of his biggest
fears was that he was going to loose his house during the 8 months that he has
to be off work to take chemo. He is a barber and has a large cliental. If he
takes time off his clients will find other people to cut their hair. I talked
with Kit and he told me that his wife didn't make enough money to even make
their house payment each month. I said all of that to say this. I would like to
take up a collection for Kit to help with his medical bills and outer bills like
groceries. I would like to do this in such a way so that he doesn't find out
that I am the one that started this. I also don't want him to know who gave
toward the money that we give him. I don't want him to know that he is getting
anything until he opens the mail and opens the card wishing him well from the
entire ROAD STAR RIDERS FORUM. I would like to collect all the money from
everyone and take it to the bank and get a cashiers check made out to Kit so
that he doesn't know who sent it, just that is came from the brothers on the
forum. Anything that you can spare will be greatly appreciated. I know times are
hard. I know ever penny counts now days but times are real hard for Kit with
only one income right now and that income doesn't even pay the bills. Can we
all pull together and put together what ever we can spare to help with the
bills? I want to say that Kit in NO WAY asked me to send this out or knows
anything about this. That is the reason I am doing this via e-mail and not
posting this on the forum. I need everyone help please in spreading this around
the forum. PLEASE DON'T POST THIS OR FORWARD THIS TO KIT (METRICMAN). Please
send this to everyone that you know of that is on our forum. Please send it to
all of your roadie rider friends on the forum. We need to pull together and help
out a hurting brother. He has enough to worry about without worrying how he is
going to pay the bills. He can't work at all for the next 8 months during
chemo. Can you spare $1, $5, $10, $20 or maybe even more? I know I spend at
least that much in chrome a payday. I can do without chrome to help out a
brother in need. Can you? Please won't you help Kit out? I know that everyone
gets paid at different times so I am going to set up a dead line of 3 weeks. We
will take up money for 3 weeks until March 14, 2003. At this time I will take
all the money we have collected to the bank and get a money order for the total
amount in Kit's name and send it with a card signed from your brothers on the
ROAD STAR RIDERS FORUM. You may send personal checks or moneys orders, which
ever is easier for you. Please don't send any cash in the mail. I don't want
any of it to get lost in the mail. If you would please sent the checks or money
orders blank or with my name on them so I can get them put into a money order
for him. Please don't put his name on the check. I don't want him to know who
gave what or who sent it. Here is my e-mail address gmwhite@coopertire.com and my home
phone # ** removed **. Please don't hesitate to call me if you have any
concerns. If you will please sent me your e-mail address with the money so that
I can sent you an e-mail letting you know I got the money ok and to give updates
on the amount of money we have collected for KIT.
Please sent the money to
Bro.Greg White ** removed **
Again please send anything that you can afford to help him out in this time
of need. We have about 1000 members or so. If everyone gave only a $1 that would
help him out in a great way. PLEASE DON'T TELL HIM ABOUT THIS. I don't want to
embarrass him. Don't forget, please send this to everyone on the forum via
e-mails that you can. Thank you and above all please keep Kit and his family in
your daily prayers. GOD BLESS EACH ONE OF YOU. ļ
Blessings, Bro.Greg White gmwhite@coopertire.com
